Chelsea still hungry for Liverpool win – Matic

Nemanja Matic insists Chelsea remaing hungry for victory at home to Liverpool this weekend, despite having wrapped up the Premier League on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho s men made sure of their first league crown since 2010 with a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace PFA Player of the Year Eden Hazard netting the winner on the stroke of half-time.

However, with matches against Liverpool, West Brom and Sunderland still to come, Matic says Chelsea will not be taking their foot of the gas.

We will be prepared for those, he told the club s official website. Of course we don t have the pressure of needing to win the league anymore, we are first whatever, but we will play seriously and try to enjoy the games we have left.

West Brom 1 Stoke City 0: Morrison maintains Pulis´ fine record

Tony Pulis preserved his fine record against former club Stoke City as West Brom edged to a 1-0 Premier League win at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

The Baggies manager is unbeaten against Stoke since leaving the club for a second time in May 2013 and secured a tight victory through James Morrison s early strike.

Morrison netted his second goal of the week in the sixth minute, having struck at the same stage of a 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

While West Brom s momentum had been interrupted by a swift equaliser on that occasion, Stoke could make nothing of their first-half possession as the hosts instead created a number of chances.

Pulis men were not quite so dominant after the interval, but Stoke s struggles continued and Saido Berahino, emerging fr…

Infantino wants racism driven out of football

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has urged football to banish racism once and for all.

Infantino addressed his federation s annual awards ceremony in Milan on Monday, before presenting Lionel Messi with The Best FIFA Men s Player prize.

But first he addressed the disgraceful scenes during Atalanta s game against Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday.

The 2-2 draw at the Ennio Tardini was stopped for three minutes after Fiorentina defender Dalbert, on loan from Inter, reported racist abuse from the crowd to the referee.

I want to say this here in Italy, in my country. Yesterday, again, we have witnessed in the Italian championship an example of racism, Infantino said.

This is not acceptable any more. We have to say this. We have to say no to racism,…

Totti confirms Roma exit after 30 years at club

Francesco Totti has left his post as a director at Roma, ending a 30-year stay at the club.

Totti joined the Roma board after retiring as a player in 2017, but reported differences between the former attacker and the club s board are said to have resulted in him leaving.

Tensions are said to have become particularly strained between Totti and club owner Jim Pallotta since March, when Monchi quit as sporting director and coach Eusebio Di Francesco was sacked.

Speculation went into overdrive after Totti failed to appear at Roma s club meeting in London last week, where new coach Paulo Fonseca was presented, with Pallotta insisting the Azzurri icon was invited.

Pallotta was unsure why Totti decided against attending but insisted he would be given time , and …

In a close-fought encounter, captain Odegaard stepped up to steer home a second-half spot-kick, with the visitors then hanging on for the final quarter of the game after Takehiro Tomiyasu was sent off.

Lopetegui wary of revitalised Barca as Sevilla brace to face Xavi´s team

Julen Lopetegui believes Barcelona finally have a clear vision for their future as his Sevilla side attempt to inflict one final blow of a terrible year for the struggling giants.

It has been a woefully grim 2021 for Barcelona, with the club having encountered dire financial problems that were a factor behind their greatest player, Lionel Messi, being forced to leave.

On the field, they won the Copa del Rey in April but have endured a torrid time in the Champions League and LaLiga, with another club legend, Ronald Koeman, losing his job as coach as a result.

The COVID-19 crisis has hit Barcelona hard, but out of the chaos of the last 12 months has risen an emerging group of young players who could save the club a fortune in transfer fees and point to a bright f…

Smalling: United were the better side

Defender Chris Smalling believes Manchester United were the better side in Sunday s 0-0 stalemate against rivals Manchester City.

The England international played the full 90 minutes as the derby finished scoreless for the first time since November 2010.

Smalling admitted the game could have been more exciting, but believes United had the better of the chances.

I think it’s one where it could have been a little bit more [exciting]. Both teams were very compact and well organised, and there weren’t too many chances,” he told MUTV.

I think we probably edged it overall with the chances we had in the second half. Towards the end, you could tell that, for the last 20-30 minutes, they were hanging on and bringing on defenders, so it was on us to real…
