Having joined United from Monaco ahead of the transfer deadline becoming the game s most expensive teenager in the process Martial marked his debut with a stunning goal in a 3-1 win over rivals Liverpool.
The France international followed that up with a brace on his first start against Southampton, while he was also on target in the League Cup victory over Ipswich Town.
Martial is the first United player to pick up the league s monthly award since Robin van Persie in April 2013, although he was pipped to United s club gong for September by team-mate Juan Mata.

Portuguese daily newspaper that Benfica aim to cash in on winger Nicolas Gaitan at the end of the season.
The Eagles tend to sell one or two key players every summer in order to ensure the steady flow of cash, and it appears the Argentine will be sacrificed in the summer transfer window.
Nicolas Gaitan is already playing his fifth season at Estadio da Luz, and it appears the time has come for the two sides to part ways.
The highly rated footballer is reportedly on the radar of Manchester United, Manchester City, PSG and Monaco, and summer exit appears on the cards.
Gaitan has seen his release clause lowered from €45m to €35m last November, which is enough to suggest Benfica are ready to listen to offers for their prized asset.

Meanwhile, the final opponent for the eventual winner will be decided between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
BVB and PSG got through the quarterfinals in a similarly impressive way, by overcoming their first-leg deficits against Spanish teams, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, respectively.

After coming up short in Super Bowl 53, the Los Angeles Rams missed the playoffs. Then, they were ousted in the Divisional Round a year later.
Head coach Sean McVay knew his Super Bowl window wouldn’t stay open forever, especially with Jared Goff as his quarterback. So, he said, “f#$% it, who needs draft picks,” and went out and traded for Matthew Stafford.
With the move, the Rams immediately became a legitimate contender and saw their Super Bowl futures jump from +2,000 to +1,200. And despite some ups-and-downs throughout the season, the all-in gamble paid off as the Rams return to the Big Game, and in their own stadium no less.
